Periodontology
Periodontology is a branch of dental medicine that deals with the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of soft tissue diseases around the root of the tooth, ie periodontium. The periodontium is made up of supporting tooth tissues that include the gingiva (gums), bone, and periodontal ligament, and are responsible for supporting the teeth in the jaw.
Symptoms of periodontitis
Periodontal diseases begin with the accumulation of bacterial plaque and tartar deposits on the teeth and lead to inflammation that gradually destroys all surrounding tissues. The symptoms of periodontitis are almost imperceptible at first, but as the disease progresses, redness and bleeding of the gums, tenderness, withdrawal of the gingiva, and bad breath occur.
Therapy
At the beginning of the disease, the therapy is simpler, it includes regular cleaning of tartar and the maintaining of dental hygiene, while in more progressive cases, surgical treatment is required. Regular hygiene – brushing your teeth and flossing or oral showering is extremely important and represents the first line of defense against plaque formation, and thus the development of tartar.
For complete oral health and a beautiful smile, home care should be supplemented with regular examinations and cleaning of hard dental plaque in the dental clinic.
